Cloud Antivirus: the Way to Go?

By admin, August 4, 2010 8:56 pm

I sit here at the moment in a hotel room, waiting for the last day of a conference on technology where the theme and focus has been the cloud. What is cloud computing? It's the idea of storing data and document and even programming out there in cyberspace (instead of on some particular computer's hard drive) and accessing it through your Internet connections.

In an age when computer data storage has become cheap and plentiful and when broadband connectivity is growing, cloud computing has some practical benefits. I use three or four different computers in the course of a day - some at home, some at work, some at other places. Cloud computing means I don't have to carry a couple of USB drives around with me all the time. It also means I don't have to worry about whether all the computers I use have the most recent versions of some word processor or spreadsheet loaded on them.

It only made sense that as more and more applications get based in the cloud, something like Cloud antivirus would show up. The cloud is a powerful place. I predict more and more of our computer life will move there - probably soon.
