Own your strategy

By admin, November 1, 2010 11:44 am

If you are a CIO who is still worried about getting marginalized at the corporate leadership level (as you well should be), try not to worry: Forrester has got your back. In a recent post "Should CIOs Have A Role In Strategic Planning" they come out with an emphatic yes, material you can take back to your CEO or board and use to help make your argument stick.

More of a concern than the fact that you are having to use Forrester to stick up for you in this way, though, might be the fact that the question has to be raised in the first place. With technology becoming more and more important in terms of businesses strategy and execution both, you would think CIO involvement in strategic planning would be a no-brainer.

You would think it would be a no brainer, but a lot of companies still haven’t quite figured out that a modern IT department offers business way more than just tech support. It’s a department that if managed right can be a huge asset in regards to business innovation. I don’t know if you know anything about North Carolina State University or not, but they have a young, but really promising program designed to help tech pros step up and play a larger role in business decisions. Their blog is pretty awesome and if you get the chance, take a look…
