Digital Natives and Distance Education

By admin, January 3, 2011 3:16 pm

People who grew up with computers and internet technology available to them from a very young age are sometimes referred to as digital natives. Digital natives are a so different from their parents before them. Technology is intricately weaved in as a part of their being and they do quite well with it. They rarely have to ask questions about how things work and their comfort level with all types of technology is quite remarkable.

As the first wave of this generation began to embark on their college educations, two things happened. One is that majors that involved computer technology exploded. The other is that universities that were fully or at least partially online became quite popular. Websites like elearners.com developed explicitly to help college students locate the right program for their educational needs.

We have come a long way in the last few decades and technology is expected to continue infiltrating our lives for years to come. It wouldn't be much of a surprise at all if in the future we all attend school via the web.
