CIO Survey - IT Spending …Up Up And Away

Third consecutive month, CIOs are predicting increased IT spending during the next 12 months, - CIO Magazine Tech Poll. Report Available here

Summary:

  • April poll predicted a spending growth rate of 7.9% during the next 12 months, up from the 6.4% growth rate they envisioned last month.
  • Respondents also predicted growth in spending for security software, application software, infrastructure software, telecommunications equipment and data networking equipment.
  • a majority of CIOs (61.2 %) said they consider their own IT infrastructure to be solid and a strong differentiator with other companies. Slightly more than 18% rated their infrastructure as average, meaning they are just getting by, while 9.6% said they view their IT infrastructure as both brittle and a potential corporate risk; 4.8% said they view their infrastructure as outdated and a significant corporate risk.
  • Storage also continues to be a priority, with half of the respondents planning to increase spending in this category
  • "The big take-away in terms of the product categories was the infrastructure software," Gary Beach, group publisher at CXO Media Inc said. "Of the eight product categories, the infrastructure software category was at 43.3%, up from 40.2% last month. The 43.3% this month was the highest since June of 2002, when the number was 44.6%."
  • panellists expect to generate 13.6% of their revenue from Internet activity (B2B&B2C) over the next 12 months, compared to 12.1% during the previous 12 months.
  • during the next 12 months, panellists expect to purchase 25.0% of their materials, supplies and parts over the Internet, up from 21.8% over the past 12 months.

    Since IT has such a predictably possitive affect on the management and work around a large corporation I don’t see a trend that will move the other direction.
