A SaaS delivered ERP system founded by PeopleSoft founder Dave Duffield and his friends.Focussed on themidmarket (1000 to 5000 employees or between 200m$ to 1B$) in North America.
AMR has an article introducing Workday, below are some excerpts from the same:
Who should try Workday?
>> Leading-edge businesses-Clearly, Workday is for companies comfortable in adopting the newest technologies, and Workday itself noted it is looking to attract "high-growth, dynamic businesses," which not only tend to lean more toward bleeding-edge products
, but will also benefit from the tools' flexibility to reorganize the organization frequently. Beta testers and initial customers include Kana Software and Biosite.
>> Midsize organizations with no ERP-Companies that are suffering from manual operational procedures and paper processes can not postpone investments in enterprise-wide systems forever, especially in today's regulatory compliance climate. Since SaaS requires standardized configurations over costly and complex customizations, these organizations should be able to get up and running to start benefiting from centralized information collection and consistency in a SaaS product relatively quickly.
>> Financially-flush firms-Although Workday says it will pass along savings gained through SaaS economies of scale in development and delivery, Workday "isn't going to be cheap." Companies should expect to pay a premium for the service-oriented architecture (SOA) product on par with what other ERP companies are charging.
Although it wants to be a full ERP system, Workday will launch with basic HR functionality, including personnel records administration and benefits enrollment.
