Wipro doubles Fresher headcount

Wipro has given job offer letters to 14,000 freshers for FY08, which is the highest in the company's history. It almost doubled its campus hiring compared to previous financial year when it recruited 7,100 freshers.

"This is to meet the growth needs, and secondly, we have decided that the proportion of rookies Versuslinks laterals should be more towards the former. This gives us a lot of operational advantages as people who go through training after college are more productive,'' Wipro HR executive vice-president Pratik Kumar said.

Currently, the rookie-lateral ratio at Wipro is skewed towards laterals. In FY07, for instance, about 64% of the gross hires were laterals while the rest were freshers. However, 52% of the net hires were freshers. "There is headspace for this to go up,'' said Mr Kumar.
