Slowing it down for the summer

If you're detecting a slightly lower frequency of posts here, there is a good reason for it: namely, I am taking a two month sabbatical and sailing north up the Inside Passage to Alaska (or as close as I can get in two months calculating in poor wind and tide and boat breakage). So, you will probably see a bit less of me for a little while at least. I didn't spring for the satellite internet access on the boat (it's a small boat) so my ability to keep up with current events and offer commentary is going to be more or less restricted to those intervals where we happen past some outpost of civilization with Internet access (such as here in lovely Vancouver BC, where I am currently typing from).
On the other hand, I may have some epiphanies sprung along the way by solitude and datastarve, or by the exigencies of operating technology in a marine environment (I'm typing this currently on an Eee PC… it's pretty slick as long as you remember to pack a full-sized USB keyboard for it) and I'll be sure to pass them along if so.
In the meantime, enjoy your summer and try to make sure there is still a contentious IT industry left for me to write about when I get back.
