SaaS Companies

Amy Wohls Blog has a post of a few SaaS stories to check into. She has been interviewing companies and seeing demos
for Codie award nominees in the area SaaS.
Excerpts from the same:
Planitax (www.planitax.com) is an application for the tax departments of very large companies, the kind that get a tax audit every year. (If you're a billion dollar or bigger company, you can expect that.) Planitax helps organize and manage tax records so that it easy for any authorized user to find what they need quickly, whether that's a number for planning purposes, or a set of tax records to support an audit interview.
Salary.com (www.salary.com) provides up-to-the-minute salary information to support planning, negotiations, and approvals for everyone from ambitious individual managers to small businesses and large enterprises. Of their 1,000 customers, about 10% are from the Fortune 1000, the rest are smaller firms of every kind.
Vocus (www.vocus.com) positions themselves as On-Demand Software for Corporate Communications and Public Relations, but they're that web child I promised you and it's hard to imagine them without the Internet. They can track a company's communications to see the tone with which they're being received, the prominence (number of placements, where those placements occur (the New York Times is better than your local weekly), and where in the publication the information appeared (first page versus an inch somewhere inside), and how you're doing versus your competition.
The first two are the kinds of applications expected to find within the firewall that are moving up to the on-line services environment. The last is one that can exist only because of the internet.
