Oracle Acquires Oblix

By admin, March 30, 2005 2:14 pm

Oracle continues its buying binge. According to Computerworld, Oracle has snatched up Oblix, a privately-held identity management technology developer. From Computerworld,

Nine-year-old Oblix's product portfolio includes
CoreID for identity management, identity federation server software
ShareID, and CoreSV for managing Web services. Oracle said it will
continue to sell Oblix's products as stand-alone software, while it
also integrates Oblix's features into its own technology stack.

Almost all of the nearly 100 strong employee base of Oblix will be extended offers at Oracle.

What I find amusing, however, is Larry Ellison's comment. I am probably taking this grossly out of context, but Computerworld writes (bold added by me):

Oracle Chairman and CEO Larry Ellison said last Tuesday that Oracle had no plans for any major acquisitions this quarter.

There's like one day left in the quarter last I checked. The comment is either reflective of Larry Ellison's appetite or the speed in which the software market is consolidating for sure.

  1. After years of spurning acquisitions as a viable growth option, Oracle has been on a shopping spree lately. In December, it spent $10.3 billion to buy rival applications developer PeopleSoft Inc., and last week, it signed a deal to buy retail applications maker Retek Inc. for $630 million. Oracle Chairman and CEO Larry Ellison said last Tuesday that Oracle had no plans for any major acquisitions this quarter.

Makes sense… acquisitions for Cisco business is the building block for Cisco’s future growth and competitive edge.
