That could explain a lot of the "take us or leave us" attitude, anyway. If you don't care about building a career, you don't have much incentive to groom yourself to fit into the corporate mold. Will time and expediency change that perception? IT, whether you think it is boring or not, has traditionally offered pretty good working environments and above average salaries, and in the US, at least, it provides one of the more attractive avenues to job growth to counter decades of losses in industrial blue-collar jobs. I don't know what other fields all those high-school and college graduates were planning on choosing instead, but I can't help they'll be a little crowded if they are going to spurn IT.
