Microsoft strategy leaks

Mary Jo Foley has obtained and now published an internal Microsoft memo detailing some of the links and plans between the next version of Windows and the windows livelinks hosted services which Microsoft has been frantically readying for regular service.

There's nothing explosive in the information presented, although the degree of integration suggested is sure to raise the hackles of various anti-trust regulatory bodies. Still, as dominant as Microsoft is on the desktop, it's hard to argue that they hold the same position in SaaS markets. You might read this memo as their effort to leverage their strength from the one market into the other, but either way it seems like good strategy to deliver value to customers.

If you're responsible for planning out your own company's technology strategy, go read the memo. The sooner you get a sense of what Windows 7 is or isn't, the easier it will be to decide whether you want it or not.
