Microsoft document management options
If you are standardized on Microsoft (and who isn't?) and have not been satisfied by Sharepoint server as a web-based document management solution (and who has?), then you may be gratified to read Mary Jo's recent report that Microsoft appears to be working on a more robust enterprise alternative. (who knew MJ knew French?)

Of course, that's pretty thin evidence, especially if you don't speak French (which I don't), but it makes some sense, given Sharepoint's limitations in this venue, that Microsoft would be working on a better alternative for the enterprise. For that matter, a lot of SMBs are getting to the point where Sharepoint isn't a great solution for the volume and size of documents they need to store-it's always been a bit problematic that the storage backend is so obtuse, that the backup and recovery options are limited and unpolished, and that the hyperlinking is limited. Although it has improved in nearly every version, a new ground-up approach would not be remiss.
