Massive infrastructure for Vancouver 2010

I'm up at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia this week, and the degree of organization on such a vast scale has been most impressive. Thousands of athletes, volunteers, and hundreds of thousands of spectators are orchestrated in a vast, chaotic ballet around the city and various venues with remarkable ease. I'm sure that it's not that easy to make it happen, though, and of course it occurred to me that the information technology behind these games (I mean besides that wicked video floor at the opening ceremonies… how would you like one of those in your house?) must be pretty impressive itself to allow all this to function so smoothly.

So here is a CIO.com photo slideshow of the Vancouver Organizing Committee's Technology Operations Center. Check out the links from the slide captions for more in-depth articles on the technology infrastructure that stands behind the Games.
