IT and business process management
Just wanted to throw up a quick link to Nick Malik's recent post on MSDNlinks on the benefits and pitfalls of IT involvement in business process management functions.

I think he's dead-on in his assessment, but would expand the general perception of IT departmens as being unready for assuming such process management roles to include most departments in most organizations; process is neglected globally, not just locally in IT. But with the advent and acceptance of SOA (I'm not saying that is happening right now, but I believe that it will) this is going to be a deficiency that is highlighted in many IT departments and it's probably better to get the kinks worked out of your process development skills now instead of later when your reputation is on the line.
