Is the future of IT Services = Talent Networks?

Business Network Transformation is a concept I have written about previously here.A lot of people believe it to be the future model for how enterprises will work. Well if that is the case than what about IT Services firms? Currently are they in the "End to end Integration phase"? They try and own everything the customer, the raw material  - supply chain and they are also trying to acquire - build or buy the complete / full suite of service offerings.

Is this a good idea? May be yes, in the past, of large contract sizes, total outsourcing deals, years when IT was operational focused. Well today everything has changed deals are becoming smaller, fragmented, focus on the niche & the business is looking at IT to drive innovation.

Recently I came across this old article by John Hagel, below is an excerpt from the same, which suggests a concept for the future of IT Services companies

"these companies could take their emerging skills in partnering with technology product companies and apply them to building talent networks to mobilize and leverage large numbers of more specialized service providers.  The real power would be to master the techniques required to accelerate the development of talent across such a distributed network of partners, thus creating stronger incentives for partners to join the network."

As I thought about it one company that came to mind was Hynote, Hynote was started by Mike Dayton, Met with  him during the Hyperion Solutions 2007 conference and discussed the model for the company. It is planned to be a Network of partners working together to create "music" - deliver CPM Solutions. The company is organized into partners at 3 different levels -  Balcony (Integral Subcontractor within Hynotes orchestralinks partner network), Stage(Enjoy preferred access to Hynote generated leads based on mutually agreed upon market territories) & Conductor(Project Management Governance process & management system). More on this later.
