In case anyone at Microsoft was wondering

Part of the reason that many CIOs aren't jumping on the Vista bandwagon are reports such as this Computerworld article showing Vista twice as slow running the company's own Office suite as Windows XP... and that XP is getting performance boosts with its next service pack, while vista sp1 thus far shows no improvements in that department.

Vista performance numbers have always been a bit squirrely so I take such studies with a grain of salt, but it certainly bears out my own anecdotal experience. I've always felt that IT should be in the business of improving efficiencies so it's actually a mystery to me why so many businesses consistently plan to move their staff to slower systems, but it has been a reality over the years. The delay on Vista deployments in enterprise may reflect a trend in management coming to its senses, or it may be a cold calculation as to how long XP support will be offered and what the transition period to Vista will require. In any event, more testing is in order and a good step back and a hard look at the totality of the effects of such a major transition is certainly in order before proceeding with upgrade plans.
