Guerilla SOA

So we have seen advice recently on conducting a revolution over the IT department, and now we're getting advised on how to conduct guerilla SOA operations. It's a wild IT world out there, I tell ya'.
There has been a little bit of controversy lately over the concept of "guerilla" SOA implementation, a term originated by Jim Webber of ThoughtWorks and popularized by Joel McKendrick at ZDNet (and you should already know this, because you already subscribe to Joel's blog, right? If you are or want to be a CIO, you should be).
Rich Seeley has a good overview on the pros and cons of the arguments here.
Personally I like the approach; I am surprised at all the controversy, however, because it seems substantially similar to Microsoft's approach to SOA as detailed way back in October of '06. Did everyone just ignore it then because it was Microsoft, and as we all know, Microsoft doesn't have an SOA strategy, do they?
Well, good ideas are where you find them, I suppose.
