Australian Government has an Open Source Guide, available to download.
The SOURCE IT division of the Government has put together a document with the purpose (as per the document) to provide government agencies with the background information and processes to better understand, analyse, plan for and deploy open source software (OSS) solutions in appropriate situations. It is not intended to direct government users and agencies towards specifying open source software should be made using the standard Australian Government criteria of fitness for purpose and value of money.
Excerpt:
Contexts where opne source solutions are emerging as a common choice include:
- Network Infrastructure(DNS, IP Address Allocation, Application Services, LDAP)
- Database Servers (Firebird SQL, Ingres, MaxDB, MySQL)
- Security Systems.(Firewalls, intrusion detection, VPN Systems, anti virus/spamming software.)
Its a comprehensive document and a must read for all interested in Open Source,
