First CIO Weblog Q&A Session With CIO Blogger
There are extremely few CIO bloggers in the blogosphere, so I am very proud to feature a Q&A session with Will Weider, CIO of Affinity Health Systems, who blogs at The Candid CIO. Affinty Health System is network of 17 clinics, three hospitals, a long-term care facility and a health plan, so it's quite of mix of clinic, ambulatory, etc. environments which not all healthcare providers have. For Will's first visit to The CIO Weblog, I wanted to ask him some questions surrounding blogging. Future sessions may cover operations, technology, market, management, and organization concerns.
Steve: Why do you blog?
Will: On
several occasions I have begun to write a book on management behavior and IT.
However, I have never made the time to see that through and probably won't as
long as I have a real job doing work I love. So, I blog
instead.
having ADD, so sitting down to write a quick entry suits me well. I find humor
and irony in a lot of things and blogging is great for that (like my entry on
the ThinkPad rollout held at Miller Brewing). (* – link added by Steve Shu)
figure out something I like to post it on my blog. Especially if I made a lot
of mistakes along the way. Maybe I can spare someone some
frustration.
interested in what I have to say. The number of hits on my blog are low, but I
get a kick at viewing the stats and see that traffic is growing and new visitors
are coming from lots of interesting places. That encourages me to make more
entries.
Steve: Do you follow any blogs?
Will: I
religiously read the HISTalk blog (http://histalk.blog-city.com/). It is
filled with rumors about my industry and the people I know. I also follow
several blogs that are more related to personal interests including Gizmodo,
Engadget, and Inside The White Sox (http://whitesoxpride.mlblogs.com/inside_the_white_sox/).
I also find drudge to be a guilty pleasure.
enjoy finding random blogs, but don't usually become a dedicated
reader.
Steve: Do you see any possibilities for other employees to blog in your organization? What customers or others in your community?
Will: Everyone has something to share. I do encourage employees to
blog, but I tell them to keep it positive and to remember that they are
protectors of our organization's good reputation.
