A SaaS of a different color

Filed in archive SaaS by Scott Wilson on April 24, 2008

In the mad rush to offer things called "SaaS" to the market, IBM is now offering "Security as a Service" to mid-sized businesses via it's X-Force division. This comes as part of a larger move by IBM to reach out to small and mid-sized businesses with simplified offerings better oriented toward less "corporate" environments. It's a laudable move for Big Blue, which historically has slathered layers of unnecessary complexity in its offerings and support systems and effectively priced themselves out of the SMB market.

While the IBM offerings look entirely above board and potentially quite useful in that space, really... when has security ever not been a service?
